Item Description
9x12.5" sheet of paper has preliminary original art for cover to "Burning Mad" #23 by Norman Mingo (1896-1980), an American commercial artist and illustrator most famous for being commissioned to formalize the image of Alfred E. Neuman for "Mad" magazine. Art shows Alfred E. Neuman dressed as firefighter and carrying box of "Bonfire Marshmallows" as fire rages in bkg. Art is dated "3/18/74" and has been signed off on at lower left. Sheet has ragged top margin as removed from sketchpad and has had clear plastic overlay attached at top that covers separate attached sheet of vellum w/painted "Burning Mad" title. Margins have some scattered editorial notations. Sheet has some handling/aging and is Fine overall but art is Exc. and would look great framed.
