Item Description
Small 2.5x3.5" original glossy silver gelatin photo. From left to right are: Pete Hill, Hurley McNair, Horace Jenkins, Richard Whitworth and Frank Wickware. Shows them in Giants uniforms posed standing on a ball field, all but Hill leaning on a bat. Lt. handing wear but clean and glossy w/sharp image. VF.  The Giants were formed in 1911 by Andrew "Rube" Foster and became the premiere independent baseball team in the west throughout the 1910s. Foster organized the first viable professional black league, the Negro National League, in 1920 with his American Giants as the cornerstone franchise. From 1910 until the mid-1930s the Chicago American Giants were the most dominant team in black baseball. Photos w/HOF member Hill are very desirable and this is an exceptional example.
