Item Description
22x27.75" thick artboard has mixed media original art for five panel cartoon that was published in "MAD" magazine #156 (Jan. 1973). Gag was written by Al Jaffee and features art by Bob Clarke (1926-2013), an American illustrator best-known for his work w/"MAD" magazine. Art depicts Santa Claus w/his sack, tossing money at young man, jewels at woman as well as delivering an assortment of expensive electronics, cars, boat and helicopter to a family before disappearing up chimney. Last panels reveals "Santa" unmasked as Satan, taking off Santa's outfit. Clarke's original art for this last panel was not approved and was replaced for publication by panel included on reverse. Clarke's original art was pasted over, altered panel having since come loose. There is now an even area of glue staining to original art. Artboard shows moderate handling wear at corners and has tape staining bordering art. Fine overall, though art (aside from aforementioned glue staining) remains clean and Exc.
