Item Description

10x12.5" acetate sheet comes w/bw photocopy of lobby card for the 1948 Columbia "Superman" serial starring Kirk Alyn, the first actor to portray the Man of Steel. Due to the shortcomings of movie special effects at the time, animation similar to that in Max Fleischer's Superman cartoon shorts was used to depict Superman in flight in the live-action serial. This example has tiny .25" long black and gray tone image of Superman in flight carrying Lois Lane, though lacking in detail, as most of these cels were. Lower right has "217" cel number. Image has very minor paint bubbling, though this does not detract greatly from overall display, which remains Exc. Very rare, w/very few examples known to remain in existence. Franco Toscanini Collection.
