Item Description

Original illustrated cardboard box contains original foam packing containing 5" tall (5.5" tall on plastic display base) die-cast metal and plastic figure of Golden Bat, a version of Ogon Bat, a Japanese superhero created in 1931. Ogon Bat is believed to be the first Japanese superhero and is considered a precursor to later superhero characters such as the Japanese Kamishibai character, Prince of Gamma (debuted early 1930s) and the American comic book characters Superman (debuted 1938) and Batman (debuted 1939). Popy Meisaku Series GA-65, produced for the Japanese market in 1976. Box shows moderate edge/corner tip wear and is Fine overall. Figure features see through holes at eyes and belt buckle and is complete w/separate plastic hat and flocked cape and comes w/illustrated Popy flyer and accessories still sealed in original plastic bag. Also comes w/illustrated instruction/story sheet. NM.
