Item Description
In 1934 Goudey issued the Big Thrill Booklet series which is similar in concept to the prototype offered in this lot. 5-7/8x12" sheet of onionskin paper features mixed media prototype original art for sign promoting 1930s "Junior G-Man Magazine" Goudey Gum offer. Art has image of "Junior G-Man Magazine" and features hand-lettered text reading "Get Your Miniature Copy Of Junior G-Man Magazine Free With Each Package Of" w/blank area for gum company's name. Text goes on to read "Thrilling Stories - G-Men Articles - Badges - Cards - Etc.," noting "48 Different Issues." Of note, magazine cover has circle w/hand-lettered pencil text noting "Capturing The Narcotic Smugglers" title and additional "G-Man's Code - G-Man's Star" features. Top left has tiny nick out of margin and sheet has some even lt. aging and slight handling wear. Fine overall. Comes w/2.5x3" prototype miniature magazine w/matching cover (slightly more detailed w/expanded title text) as seen on prototype sign. Magazine prototype features eight pages (counting front/back covers), each inner page featuring mixed media original art w/captions including "Jones Examines The Only Clue, Spying On The Gang's Hideout, Chief Congratulates Jones" and picturing "G-Man Star" badge and ID card. Another page features images of fingerprints and inside back cover features detailed image and hand-lettered text reading "Here's The G-Man Star Badge - Cut Out And Paste On Cardboard." Back cover has text promoting next issue "What One G-Man Did To The Smith Gang" and promotional text "Get The Entire Series - This Is Only One Of A Series Of 48 'G-Man' Stories To Be Found In 'G-Man Gum' Made By Goudy [sic] Gum Co. - Boston, Mass." Text paste-over at bottom. Some scattered aging /handling wear but VF overall and very detailed. An exceptional lot for the non-sports collector and something totally unique. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
