Item Description
15.5x22" artboard has original mixed media prototype original art for sign promoting 1940s Kellogg's "Pep" cereal premium button set. Based on the popularity of the 1945 "Pep" comic character button set, a movie star button set was proposed, but never produced (Quaker did release a similar set later). Sign shows boy wearing button-covered beanie and an array of buttons w/preliminary art of movie stars arranged in star shape. None are specifically identified, but apparent stars include - Roy Rogers, Judy Garland and Ethel Merman. Lower right corner has partial image of "Pep Whole Wheat" cereal box. Hand-lettered promotional text includes "18 Glamorous Movie Stars In Full Color!" Sign shows corner tip/edge wear w/moderate loss to painted lettering (though this remains legible). Fine overall. Unique. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
