Item Description
6.5x22.75" thin artboard w/India ink art from second year of Chester Gould's famed detective comic strip, which debuted Oct. 4, 1931. Art is for Aug. 13, 1932 daily strip and features four panels, Dick Tracy clearly seen in first and last panels as he hides in hollow tree to listen in on pair of men discussing payment of a debt.  Top right has been inscribed by Gould, reading in part "With Good Wishes For Success And Happiness - Thanks For Your Encouraging Words And Good Wishes - And Same To You," going on to sign both his name and "Dick Tracy." Third panel has past over strip w/new text (as published). Artboard has moderate all over aging w/scattered staining. Pin holes at corners and along top margin. Top right corner has .5" sliver off and has archival tape repair on reverse to 2.25" tear, reattaching corner piece. This tear crosses Gould's signature and last letter of "Dick Tracy." VG overall. Historic and early piece of "Dick Tracy" original art by his creator.
