Item Description
15x20" thick artboard has 13.75x16.25" image area done in watercolor showing Davy Crockett in coonskin cap and deerskin fringed coat holding flintlock w/powder horn and hatchet at sides. Artist is James L. Vlasaty (his watercolors of Native American chiefs currently resides in the Oakland Museum of California), who has signed in lower right. Art was done for cover of 1955 book "Famous Frontiersmen," the Davy Crockett cover replacing the book's planned original cover, taking advantage of Crockett's popularity at the time. Margins show moderate dust soiling/aging, slightly affecting upper left corner of art image but not directly affecting Crockett image. If framed, would display VF. Comes w/original paper overlay.
