Item Description
12x13" die-cut stiff cardboard sign features classic image of Superman from the knees up, w/large "Try Superman Bread" text, advertising it as "A Super Delicious Loaf For Adults And Children - Helps Furnish Your Daily Supply Of Vitamins." For popular 1941 bread promotion that saw set of 24 thin paper cards (ACC# D143) issued one per loaf of bread as an insert. Cards came w/attached pledge stamps, of which there were a total of eight different. Upon acquiring a complete set of eight, it was to be sent in as enrollment in the "Superman Junior Defense League Of America" and upon doing so, you received a club badge. This is referenced by "Boys & Girls - Join Superman's New Junior Defense League - Ask Your Grocer For Free Entry Blank" text at bottom. This text is strip at bottom is color photocopy replacement. Sign has some handling creases along upper right and moderate age spotting along bottom edge where replacement was attached. Fine overall but still nice for display. Very rare, we know of only one other example of this sign, from which the replacement bottom strip was copied. Very impressive Superman piece, the first example we've offered in our 50 years. See following lot #1820. Franco Toscanini Collection.
