Item Description
6.5" tall ribbon with reverse stickpin from 1896. Gold text "For President. Wm. McKinley, Of Ohio/For Vice-President, Morgan G. Bulkeley, Of Connecticut" plus mounted 2.25x2.75" cardboard photo. Bulkeley was elected first president of the National League upon its founding in 1876. He was also elected to Baseball's Hall Of Fame for meritorious service to the game. He served as President of Aetna Insurance for 43 years, was Governor of Connecticut 1889-1893 and won his Senate race in 1904. We've also seen a VP hopeful 1896 text ribbon which reads in full "For Republicanism./'He Dares To Lead, Where Any Dare To Follow.'/True Blue./For Vice-President Morgan G. Bulkeley/Of Connecticut". This portrait ribbon is the only example known to us. Tiny wear traces but super clean and overall Exc. Ron Koot Collection.
