Item Description
1-7/16" dia. and 1/8" thick copper planchet. While both Satterlee (#137) and DeWitt list this in both white metal and copper, DeWitt added the notation: "There is doubt as to when this piece was issued. In the sale of the Levick collection in April, 1865,  at No. 100, a copy of this piece in copper, is described as "the reproduction of some enterprising person." Name and bust on obv. with reverse showing Washington monument and "In Commemoration Of The Great Convention Held At Baltimore May, 1844". Tiny wear traces. Exc. Regardless of DeWitt's note, quite scarce in copper and the last example (much more worn) we found offered came from Joe Brown's collection in 2004.
