Item Description
Matte contains 17-7/8x23.5" thin artboard w/pen and ink original art for Oct. 19, 1980 Sunday page, from the "Han Solo At Stars' End" storyline based on the book by Brian Daley and featuring the adventures of Han Solo and Chewbacca before they joined The Rebellion. Archie Goodwin script w/art by Alfredo Alcala (1925-2000), a Filipino comic book artist known for his Sci-Fi and Fantasy work including "Voltar, Savage Sword Of Conan" and "Swamp Thing." The "Star Wars" comic strip ran 1979-1984, making this art from the strip's second year. Page has eight panels (comprised of six cut panels assembled on single artboard) and shows Han Solo and Jessa Vandagante testing out fighter ships. Chewbacca appears in first, second and fourth panels in a rage, upset that he doesn't fit in the fighters. Chewie proceeds to smash equipment and growl. Fifth panel features nice close-up image of Solo piloting ship. First panel has Lucasfilm, Ltd. copyright strip paste-over and L.A. Times Synd. distributor paste-over strip. "Star Wars" title in first panel is paste-over stat. Second panel has aged word balloon paste-over and panels have some scattered white correctional fluid touch-ups, but o/w art remains clean and Exc. Ready for framing. Original art for "Star Wars" Sunday pages continue to rapidly grow in desirability and value.
