Item Description
Two pieces of art paper assembled into large 16.5x43.5" banner has original mixed media prototype original art for sign promoting 1940s Kellogg's "Pep" cereal premium button set. Based on the popularity of the 1945 "Pep" comic character button set, a movie star button set was proposed, but never produced (Quaker did release a similar set later). Sign shows image of beanie at left w/eight  buttons on it. And additional six button images are seen to right of beanie, but none are specifically identified and images remain rather indistinct. Personalities cannot be identifies w/any certainty. Lower right corner has partial image of "Pep Whole Wheat" cereal box. Hand-lettered promotional text includes "Boys - Girls - Get Your Colorful Beanie Cap - Made Of Felt - In Smart 2-Color Combinations! A Button In Every Package Of Pep... Be Sure To Get Them All!" Additional text beside cereal box image indicate beanie was to be obtained by sending two "Pep" box tops and 10¢. Sign has three areas of vertical creases and some scattered margin wear w/a few small chips at lower left corner, just below 1" tear to left margin. Fine/VF overall. Unique. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
