Item Description
Last auction we offered prototype original art for a 1930s Goudey "Junior G-Man Magazine" booklet and sign. While the prototypes offered here do not feature the Goudey name, this was for a similar pitch created for them in the 1930s. 8.75x10.75" sheet of vellum features mixed media prototype original art for sign or display box promoting "A Differed Folder Of Your Favorite Comics In Each Package Of Comic Gum." Top features three panels, showing "Smitty, Moon Mullins" and "Buck Rogers." These titles are painted in white, w/much of the paint having flaked off. Additional comic character portraits appear along bottom, including Moon Mullins, Buck Rogers, Dick Tracy, Harold Teen, Andy Gump and others. Hand-lettered "1¢" price at lower right. Sheet has horizontal and vertical crease and has some scattered creasing. Even aging w/some scattered margin wear. VG/Fine. 2.5x2.5" comic folder prototype has original art on the front cover only and this is in tempera w/hand-lettered "Moon Mullins In Early To Bed - A Full Color Comic" title w/additional "Get The Other Cartoons In This Series" text. Folder opens to 16" long and all inner panels are vintage "Moon Mullins" comic panels that have been glued to paper. Each panel has been hand numbered at bottom. A few panels have glue staining from missing cut-outs. Moderate edge/corner tip wear w/archival tape repairs at fold lines. VG. An exceptional and totally unique lot for the non-sports collector.
