Item Description
Lot consists of 7x8.5" blank face mask base w/slots for attaching various pieces to produce masks for multiple characters. Base mask features all watercolor original art w/hand-lettered letters beside slots. Left temple has paper clip rust soiling but mask is o/w VF. Comes w/parts for Howdy Doody, Gabby Hayes, Imogene Coca and Jackie Gleason. Each personality features multiple pieces to be inserted in base mask's slots. Each piece has penciled character name on back and each features mixed media original art. Exc. These superbly designed, hand-cut and painted stiff paper masks were submitted as premiums by Einson-Freeman Co., Inc., 1950s. Einson-Freeman are known for their character masks issued over the years, including Disney characters. Art comes w/Einson-Freeman envelopes for each character, w/names penciled on fronts. Lot also includes 31.75" sheet of paper w/pencil outlines for base mask and each mask piece. Five vertical creases w/scattered aging/handling wear. Fine overall. A truly unique and elaborate original art prototype lot. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
