Item Description
11.25x17" Sparta artboard features pen and ink original art for the cover to "House Of Mystery" Vol. 1, #312, published by DC Comics in Jan. 1983. Art is by Michael Kaluta, an American comics artist and writer best known for his acclaimed 1970s adaptation of the pulp magazine hero The Shadow. Cover features "I... Vampire!" main character Andrew Bennett rising from the grave in a ramshackle graveyard. Bennett is surrounded by bats, rats and snakes, w/a pair of black cats perched on a tombstone. A few spots of white correctional fluid to Bennett's face. Art has pasted title stat and publishing indicia while lower left has box w/applied strip w/Kaluta's signature. Some scattered editorial notations at margins. Top margin has hand-lettered title, month and issue number at upper right. Artboard has even aging and scattered handling wear w/small corner tip off at lower left. Fine overall, but art still displays Exc. Wonderfully detailed and atmospheric, art perfectly suits the long-running DC horror and mystery title.
