Item Description
Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) was an American writer, publisher, artist and philosopher. Hubbard is best known as the founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, NY, an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Among his many publications were "Little Journeys To The Homes Of The Great" and "A Message To Garcia." He and his second wife died aboard the RMS Lusitania when it was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland on May 7, 1915. Offered here is a vintage 10-7/8x14" mat w/c. 1900 photo of Hubbard, who has inscribed/signed "To Howard Davis With All Best Wishes - Elbert Hubbard." Some lt. moisture to "With All" and "Elbert," but still totally legible. Mat has some scattered aging/wear. Fine overall. See previous item #641. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
