Item Description
14.5x18.5" thin artboard w/pen and ink original art for cover to Post's cereal premium "Ring No.1" book published in 1946. These premium books were issued packaged between special two-pack of Post's "Grape-Nut" cereal. As noted by hand-lettered text on sign being carried by clown, book contained "32 Pages In Full Color - Animal And Clown Cut-Outs, Puzzles, Games, Riddles, Stories, Cartoons, Circus Party Tricks, Fortunes, Tickets, Badges And Colorful Cut-Out Circus Parade." Other cover art of note is pair of circus dogs wearing Post's "P" jackets; one dog biting clown's behind trying to get at sausages in his pocket as another clown laughs in bkg. This same image was used on the mailing envelope, but w/different text. Lower left has "'Silver Printed By Photochrome'" inkstamp. 1.5x3.75" piece replaced at right margin below center; not affecting art, which remains clean. Artboard has moderate margin aging/dust soiling. Fine overall w/VF/Exc. art. Comes w/10.25x13.25" vellum sheet featuring full color original art mock-up for cover, though art differs slightly in that it is not as detailed. Sheet has even moderate aging w/margin folds. VG/Fine overall, but could be matted for Exc. art display. Original art for published premiums such as this rarely come up for sale. Unique pair. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
