Item Description
Elaborate prototype w/much mixed media original art and extensive hand-lettered text for 1940s department store premium. 9" dia. artboard disc has smaller 8" dia. disc w/die-cut window attached on one side at center via metal tab while other side has another 8" dia. disc w/two die-cut windows. Smaller dials feature holly leaf border w/smaller die-cut window to select whom gift was for. One window reveals "Personal" gifts w/hand-lettered suggestions while other window has hand-lettered "Home" gift ideas. Center has "Magic Christmas Gift Selector" premium name w/area for store name above and hours below. Disc w/single window has image of Santa Claus and man and woman looking over Christmas list. Hand-lettered text reads "'Come With Me On A Shopping Trip Through" w/non-distinct symbols representing department store name. Bottom center has "A Merry Christmas From" w/non-distinct department store image. Outer edge of larger disc has hand-lettered "First Floor, Second Floor, Third Floor, Fourth Floor, Fifth Floor, Sixth Floor" designations w/corresponding merchandise appearing in window when smaller inner disc is turned. Only first floor has text, noting "Ladies Hosiery, Collars, Cuffs, Hand Bags, Scarfs, Notions, Perfumes, Dress Flowers, Handkerchiefs, Xmas Card." Outer dial has airbrushed corrections to holly design that was once situated between floors. Some lt. wear/aging w/trace wear from tab at center (which has some lt. oxidation) but Fine/VF overall.
