Item Description
5.25x5-3/8x2-5/8" deep plain cardboard but original box has lid stamped "Captain Liberty Spaceman Watch" and shows moderate wear, w/corner split, 1.25" tear and side panel creasing. Lid has scattered moisture staining. VG overall. Liberty Watch Corporation, 1950s. Comes w/guarantee slip. Box contains 5.25x5.25" illustrated cardboard base containing 3.5" dia. clear plastic dome w/single-sided die-cut cardboard "Captain Liberty" piece holding it in place. This has some bends/creases. Base has "Spaceman Watch" text and rocketship image. Plastic dome covers illustrated "The Planets And The Solar System" space map w/distances from Earth to other planets. 1x1.25" chrome luster metal case watch displays under dome, complete w/original leather bands; one still having "Liberty "6.95 Plus Tax" foil price band in place. Watch dial features "Captain Liberty" name and images of ringed planet, star and rocketship. Similar in design/concept to the Space Patrol watch by US Time. Liberty produced very little in the way of character watches, this being their most impressive. Tiny hairline in dome and even aging to cardboard components, but display base is o/w VF. Watch is working and NM, old store stock. Very rare boxed and first such example we've offered in our 51 years.
