Item Description
6" button with black cardboard reverse which includes fold out easel and brass bar pin. Front has bold text "Brooklyn Dodgers" with smaller text next to cartoon of a bum catching a fly ball in "Ebbets Field." The Muchinsky book Baseball Pinback Buttons pictures 32 Brooklyn or Los Angeles team name buttons. This is listed as L-r31 and of all the Dodger related buttons at $2500 he assigns this the greatest value. His comment in the book  is "A Magnificent 6" Pin From The Brooklyn Dodgers, Made One Or Two Years Before They Moved To Los Angeles." We sold the Muchinsky Collection book photo example several years ago in Auction #217 with it realizing over $1500 including the premium. While the front of this example displays glossy and Near Mint, the reverse did not assemble perfectly. The black cardboard back did not seat smoothly into the concave opening. By the top left edge the cardboard has a .5"  ripple crease that throws off the alignment of the die-cut edges around the easel foldouts preventing them from laying with perfect smoothness. Also, the narrow edge of the  acetate covering that should have folded under the cardboard failed to do so around 70% of the circle. The acetate remains stiff enough that it is in no danger of further dislocation and, most importantly, these assembly issues are confined to the reverse with the only very trivial impact on the front being a thin line of air at a few places around the front outer edge. Visually, the front of the button appears as nice as the Muchinsky Collection example and this is the only additional example known to us. VG, displaying NM.
