Item Description
Original illustrated box w/display lid contains 7.5" tall tin litho made in Japan by Sankei, 1950s. Due to the corrugated cardboard under the box label, box has all-over noticeable tanning. Die-cut display lid has two .75" tears at left/right, separating front half of lid. Colors remain strong. VG overall. Box has accordion-like cardboard insert which stretches across the box bottom held in place by a pair of cardboard strips. Front edge of box has designations of hits or outs. Object was to fold the box lid backward to form a backdrop so that when balls were hit by the toy, they would fall into one of the areas resulting either in a hit or an out. Toy features ballplayer wearing "All Stars" uniform holding plastic bat. He stands in front of batting machine unit. Base features illustrations of other ballplayers along w/"Yankees, Red Sox, Senators, Phillies, Dodgers," team names. Comes w/seven original plastic balls. Toy works well. Player figure has some tiny scattered paint nicks and pinpoint spots and player and front/back of ball launcher has some factory touch-ups but remains glossy. VF. Great design.
