Item Description
3.5" tall, one pound size tin w/original lid and bail handle by Canco. 1920s. "Pickaninny" is a derogatory term that was utilized to promote various products during the late 1800s and into the 1900s. This tin contained peanut butter by F.M. Hoyt & Co. of Amesbury, MA and front of can features stereotypical depiction of African-American girl holding same design peanut butter tin. An African-American doll can be seen at her bare feet. Base of tin has moderate oxidation and lid has obvious luster wear to edges w/scattered paint nicks/scratches and tiny dents. Still displays Fine overall.
