29.5x39.25" poster printed in Brussels, Belgium advertises Le Thermogène, a popular European medicinal poultice composed of soft cotton wadding treated w/capsicum, a blistering agent that is responsible for the product's activity when applied to any apart of the body where heat would be beneficial. Poster features stunning imagery by Leonetto Cappiello of a fire-eating circus performer holding the product close to his chest, w/French text at top translating to "Le Thermogène Generates Heat" w/text at bottom noting effectiveness against cough, rheumatism and other ailments. First printed in 1909, this is a 1949 printing of this iconic advertising poster. Originally folded, poster has been linen-mounted and fold lines are only noticeable upon close inspection. 1.5" edge sliver of staining along upper left margin and repair to .75" tear at upper right margin, but o/w poster has had minimal work done to it and displays NM w/vivid color. No advertisement in Le Thermogène's history has had a greater impact than this Cappiello poster.
