Item Description
Ring has brass base w/four small prongs that holds a domed plastic cover over a real photo (w/o dot screen) of Richard Coogan in his role as the first TV space hero - Captain Video. The "Captain Video And His Video Rangers" program aired in 1949 on the Dumont Network and beat Buck Rogers to TV by a year. This is the only Captain Video premium issued while Coogan was in the role, as Al Hodge took over in 1951. Coogan is shown holding large futuristic space gun. While dome is 100% complete, extreme right edge has a tiny white dot from 1/16" internal plastic fracture. Very minor and still overall an Exc. example w/near full bright luster and nicer than most as most survivors have much more wear on the dome. Comes w/1.5" brass "Capt. Video Mysto-Coder" decoder that has reverse brass pocket clip and a pair of overlapping plastic dials; one w/letters, one with numbers for decoding purposes. 1951. Front has .5" dia. domed ruby red plastic disc held by four brass prongs. This is lifted to reveal paper image of Captain Video flanked by lightning bolt accents. Letters and numerals on the plastic wheels, which are sometimes rather worn, remain clear and decoder retains near full bright luster. NM and as nice as these come. A scarce Power House Candy premium pair.
