Item Description
Large and impressive 32.5x59.5" cardboard standee for the original release of the classic 1951 20th Century Fox film directed by Robert Wise and starring Michael Rennie as Klaatu, Patricia Neal and Lock Martin as Klaatu's robot companion Gort. The film tells the story of how a humanoid alien visitor comes to Earth (accompanied by a powerful robot) to deliver a message of utmost importance to humanity. Standee features imagery similar to the film's posters, and is dominated by large image of Gort, who holds woman in his arms as he fires beam from his visor at the many soldiers and tanks that are firing on him at bottom. Klaatu is seen gesturing to crowd as well w/the US Capitol Building in the bkg. Horizontal fold line at center as issued. Standee is missing easel back. Scattered edge/corner tip wear w/some creasing to surface along fold line. Bottom corners show more moderate wear w/15" diagonal crease showing some color breaks. Scattered color rubs, but standee retains much deep and vibrant color. Back has a number of aged strips of masking tape, including long piece added to back of fold as reinforcement. Fine overall. While the one-sheet movie poster for "The Day The Earth Stood Still" is among the most popular and sought after of all Sci-Fi posters, this standee infinitely rarer, w/only a few known surviving examples and is also among the most sought after movie standees of any era. Very rare and first we've offered in our 52 years. This is the actual example shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
