Item Description
1-7/8" dia. silver luster metal case watch w/o maker's name though manufactured exclusively for The Brown Shoe Co. Two different Buster Brown Shoes pocket watches were made c. 1910 and are widely considered the first timepieces to feature a comic character. Dial features "Buster Brown Blue Ribbon Shoes" name w/small color images of Buster Brown and Tige shown waving w/black company "5" star trademark flanked by "For Boys - For Girls" text. The other version features images of Buster and Tige and red "5" star trademark, "Buster Brown Shoes" name and small "Made In U.S.A." text at bottom of dial. Both are equally rare. Slight fade to the red of Buster's coat and dial has moderate dust soiling. Covered w/original glass crystal w/thin beveled edge. Silvered case has brass showing through at left side and has scattered lt., wear. Case is Fine overall. Watch is overwound. Comes w/2.5x5" contest entry card showing this "Buster Brown Blue Ribbon Shoes" variety pocket watch and matching Buster Brown fob. Numbered ticket was given w/each pair of Buster Brown Shoes purchased and winner were drawn weekly to get pocket watch prize. Unused w/two faint spots of moisture staining. Still VF overall. These are the actual examples shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
