Item Description
In the late 1970s a small number of prototypes and lead proofs came into the radio premium hobby via a former employer of the Robbins Co. in Attleboro, MA which designed and produced many of the 1930s and 1950s premiums made of metal. These were quickly absorbed into the hobby as prized rarities and many of the pieces have proven to be unique. While "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake lists numerous examples for various radio characters, this is a previously unknown prototype not cataloged in the Hake guide. The mass produced 1938 "Wrangler" badge for club members, w/Tom Mix profile facing right, is made of brass and carries the checkerboard logo in gold foil. This test piece, almost certainly unique, is made of embossed metal in shaded silver luster and carries the Ralston logo in silver foil, rather than gold foil. Choice, NM condition.
