Item Description
2x2-5/8" Cuban card issued as a premium by Billiken brand cigars. Cards in this set feature players from the 1923-24 Cuban Professional League. The set includes 15 cards each for the four teams that participated that season: Almendares, Habana, Marianao, and Santa Clara. Glossy front features a B&W photo, players name and team. The back of the card has an ad for "Billiken." Cards in this elusive set are among the scarcest and most popular of the pre-war Cuban issues.
Freddie Fitzsimmons was an accomplished major league pitcher who played for 19 seasons for the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers, winning a World Series title with the Giants in 1933. He also played in the Cuban League for one season and split time between Marianao and Habana. Fitzsimmons also managed and coached in the major leagues. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
