Item Description
2x2-5/8" Cuban card issued as a premium by Billiken brand cigars. Cards in this set feature players from the 1923-24 Cuban Professional League. The set includes 15 cards each for the four teams that participated that season: Almendares, Habana, Marianao, Santa Clara. Glossy front features a B&W photo, player's name and team. The back of the card has an ad for "Billiken." Cards in this elusive set are among the scarcest and most popular of the pre-war Cuban issues.

José María Fernández, Sr. was a baseball catcher and manager in the Cuban and Negro leagues. He played from 1916 to 1950 w/Cuban Stars East, Chicago American Giants and the New York Cubans. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
