Item Description
2x2-5/8" Cuban card issued as a premium by Billiken brand cigars. Cards in this set feature players from the 1923-24 Cuban Professional League. The set includes 15 cards each for the four teams that participated that season: Almendares, Habana, Marianao, and Santa Clara. Glossy front features a B&W photo, players name and team. The back of the card has an ad for "Billiken." Cards in this elusive set are among the scarcest and most popular of the pre-war Cuban issues.
Jakie May played for parts of 14 seasons in Major League baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago Cubs. He played for the Cubs when they won the National League Pennant and then lost in the World Series to the New York Yankees. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
