Item Description
3.5x5.5" vintage glossy postcard depicting American evangelist and former National League baseball star, Billy Sunday, posing in formal attire while seated at a photography studio. "Genuine Photo by C.U. Williams, Bloomington, Ill." Sunday played a total of 8 professional baseball seasons, starring for both the Chicago and Pittsburgh, National League ball clubs. Billy finished with a career .248 batting average along with 246 stolen bases and 339 runs scored from 1883-90. Following his playing days, Sunday would go on to become the most prominent American evangelist for the first two decades of the 20th century. Best known for his support of prohibition, Sunday played an instrumental role in the adoption of the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1919. Postcard back is divided and includes a pencil notation identifying "Billy Sunday" but is otherwise blank and unused. Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
