Item Description
Large and impressive 13x16-3/8" vintage matte finish photo shows Italian professional boxer and the World Heavyweight Champion Primo Carnera (1906-1967) posing barechested in boxing attire. In addition to Carnera's boxing accolades, he also appeared in a few films from the late 1930s through the 1950s and also performed as a professional wrestler for a time. Photo has been inscribed and signed in black ink, which has aged slightly in a few places but remains legible, reading "To Mr. [illegible name] And All His Assistants With My Sincere Thanks And Appreciation For All Courtesies Received During My Stay At The Lincoln Hotel." Carnera has boldly signed his name below this, adding "New York - 12/12/31" location/date. Photo has obvious rippling and has large bowed crease running from center left up to upper right corner, crossing above Carnera's shoulder and across his lower face. Some corner tip/edge wear resulting in a few emulsion hairlines. These do not affect image or inscription/signature, which could be matted and framed for a Fine display. As impressive a signed Primo Carnera photo as you're apt to fine. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA. Richard Merkin Collection.
