Item Description
7-7/8x9.75" original glossy photo depicting Negro League HOF great, Martin Dihigo, dressed in formal attire along with two unidentified gentlemen. Photographer's stamp on the back indicates credit to "Salas, 319 West 50th St., New York 19, NY". Dihigo starred for many years in the U.S. Negro Leagues, playing primarily for the New York Cubans but also spent many seasons playing internationally in Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. Most noted for his versatility as both a pitcher and hitter/fielder, Martin is widely considered to be the best all-around ballplayer to ever play in the Negro Leagues. Dihigo was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY in 1977 as well as having already been a member of the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame and Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame for many years. Photo exhibits numerous surface wrinkles and creases along with general corner wear but these issues do not detract greatly from the overall presentation of the high quality image. Back of photo has one small tape repair along the bottom edge. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
