Item Description
15x22-1/8" artboard features 10 panels of pen and ink original art by "Archie" co-creator Bob Montana. Art is for the Aug. 11, 1957 Sunday page and features Fred Andrews trying to relax on his day off, only for Archie's loud music and his wife's vacuuming to disturb him. He announces he's going golfing, hoping to escape the chaos. Archie and Mrs. Andrews announce they'll join him, much to Mr. Andrews' obvious irritation. Upon arriving at the golf course, Mrs. Andrews suggests either she or Archie could serve as a caddy to which Mr. Andrews announces he's getting a professional. This turns out to be Jughead, further irritating Mr. Andrews. The chaos continues when Archie sees Veronica and Betty, who start to chat as Mr. Andrews tries to focus on his golf. Mrs. Andrews and Jughead also distract him, causing him to slice his ball into the woods. Retrieving it, he decides to race home to enjoy some peace and quiet at home in last panel. Archie appears in seven panels, Jughead appears in two, as does Veronica. Betty appears in just one panel. First panel has "Archie" title paste-over which has moderate staining. Tenth panel has been dated and has McClure Newspaper Syndicate paste-over. Printer registration labels at left/right margins, left margin having three staples. Blue pencil date at upper left and lead pencil date at upper right margin. Top margin also has inkstamped editorial/printer notation. Back has photoengraver inkstamp. First panel has minor stain and last panel has stain at lower right corner but o/w art displays clean and VF.
