Item Description
5x7" original matte finish silver gelatin photo.  A rare in-action photo depicting a total of seven Cubs ballplayers along with a young boy (wearing a baseball glove), who is watching them participate in a horseshoe tossing competition. Based on the uniform style worn by the players, these are members of the 1910 team, the ball club which dominated play in the NL during the first decade of the 20th Century. This edition finished the 1910 season in first place in the NL with a 104-50 record, ultimately losing to the Philadelphia Athletics in the World Series. From this powerhouse club, we have been able to identify three Hall of Famers pictured in this photo, second from the left is manager/first baseman Frank Chance, next to him, third from the left is Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown and fifth from the left stands second baseman, Johnny Evers. A fourth Hall of Famer, Joe Tinker, third baseman from the famed Tinker to Evers to Change double play combo, was also part of the 1910 Cubs team and could be pictured here as well but we have not been able to positively identify him. Other key members from this team that could also be included here are: Harry Steinfeldt, Jimmy Sheckard, Solly Hofman, Johnny Kling, Frank Schulte, Ed Ruelbach, Orval Overall, King Cole & Harry McIntire. Photo exhibits only a lt. trace of aging. Exc. w/sharp and distinct image.  From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
