Item Description
2x2-5/8" Cuban card issued as a premium by Billiken brand cigars. Cards in this set feature players from the 1923-24 Cuban Professional League. The set includes 15 cards each for the four teams that participated that season: Almendares, Habana, Marianao, and Santa Clara. Glossy front features a B&W photo, players name and team. The back of the card has an ad for "Billiken." Cards in this elusive set are among the scarcest and most popular of the pre-war Cuban issues.
Acostica played only one season in black baseball and was widely regarded as the best pitcher on the 1915 Long Branch Cubans. Jose also played three seasons of Major League Baseball for the Washington Senators and Chicago White Sox from 1920-22. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
