Item Description
3.5x5.5" vintage matte postcard depicts 12 team members in full uniform along w/their formal attired manager, standing/seated in front of wooden fence. Bottom right corner on front indicates "Publ. by Dice & Kauffman." Back has "Aug. 12, 1906 - York, PA" pencil notation, likely noting the date this team photo was taken. The White Roses ball club finished the 1906 season w/a record of 75-52, good for a first place finish in the Independent Tri-State League under manager George Heckert. An impressive total of 16 ballplayers from this team would go on to play MLB, including notables - Jack Hayden, Eddie Zimmerman, Bill Clay, Stoney McGlynn, Joseph Myers, Mike O'Neill, William Matthews, Bert Conn, Snake Wiltse and Red Owens. Postcard exhibits moderate, even corner wear along w/a couple of lt. surface wrinkles in the upper right corner. Postcard back is undivided and remains blank and unused. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
