Item Description
7.5x9.75" vintage glossy photo depicts Chicago White Sox HOF great Luke Appling during his post-career tenure as Manager of the Richmond Virginians ball club. "Fotos RFM Habana" photographer's stamp on back. Seated next to Appling is Ramiro Martinez, a sportswriter who covered the Havana Sugar Kings minor league team. Fashioning a 20 year MLB career, all w/the Chicago White Sox, Appling was one of the best shortstops of his day, winding up w/a career batting average of .310, w/45 home runs and 1,116 RBIs. Appling was elected to the Baseball HOF in 1964. Image quality of the photo is excellent. Back of photo describes the subject matter along w/1954 date. VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
