Item Description
7-5/8x9-1/8" vintage glossy silver gelatin photo depicts long-time Cuban League star Silvio Garcia during the 1950 Cuban League baseball season, playing for the Cienfuegos ball club. "Fotos RFM Habana" photographer's stamp on back along w/Nov. 26, 1950 date stamp and attached newspaper caption. Beginning his professional baseball career in Cuba in 1936-37, Garcia started out as a pitcher but was injured that first season and turned into an everyday infielder. Garcia was a 5-tool talent, excelling at bat w/prodigious power, excellent speed, superb fielder and maintained his strong arm from his previous pitching days. During his final Cuban League season, Garcia led the league w/a .347 batting average. Image quality of photo is excellent, w/several lt. surface wrinkles visible, primarily at corners. Fine.
