Item Description
3-3/8x5.25" vintage matte silver gelatin postcard depicts 16 ballplayers in full uniform along w/batboy/mascot posed in front of outfield fence w/numerous children in bkg. Inked "1918" date at upper right corner of front above "J. L. Quintana - Gibara, Cuba" impression stamp. Photo has lightly printed text at lower right, reading in part "Central S. Lucia - Oriente - Cuba." Although we have not been able to identify the specific team nor any individual ballplayers here, it is very likely that this ball club is a Cuban professional team, possibly w/well-known stars present. Image quality is excellent, making this a nice research project for the Cuban baseball enthusiast. Artura stamp box dating of 1908-24. Back of divided postcard remains blank and unused w/corner tip wear and some lt. foxing. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
