Item Description
3.5x5.5 vintage blank-backed postcard produced in Mexico, depicting an unidentified Mexican League ballplayer in Monterrey uniform. During this time period, Monterrey was one of the top teams in the Mexican League and a haven for Negro League ballplayers looking to earn extra money above and beyond their US contracts. Roy Campanella was the most famous Monterrey team member, during his playing days w/the Negro League's Baltimore Elite Giants and prior to his MLB career w/the Brooklyn Dodgers. Postcard exhibits some scattered soiling on the front, primarily along the left margin w/corner tip wear. Back of postcard is blank and unused w/o postcard markings as is sometimes the case w/foreign issues. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
