Item Description
Only example known to Hake's, this is a large 2.25" button with exceptionally wide collet holding in place the back paper of the Chicago maker Geraghty Mfg. Co., small age marks on the paper. This fascinating relic proudly displays 20 portarits of the 1906 Chicago Cubs team members. This '06 Chicago Cubs ball club was widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball teams in National League history, finishing with an all-time N.L. best record of 116-36 but, amazingly, lost the World Series to the cross-town rival, Chicago White Sox in six games. The 1906 Cubs were led by four National Baseball Hall of Famers: Frank Chance (MGR/1B - Center), Mordecai "Three Fingers" Brown (SP - Inner circle at 7 o'clock), Joe Tinker (3B - Outer circle, bottom) and Johnny Evers (2B - Outer circle at 1 o'clock). Souvenirs were made for both the Cubs and White Sox in advance of the World Series declaring each "Champion", to date, a White Sox example has yet to surface. Light and normal surface wear shows only in reflected light. Exc. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
