Item Description
Rare 1.25", no maker, with concave tin back and fixed horizontal bar pin, picturing a tiger running at full speed with a "pennant" in his mouth. The 1907 Detroit Tigers ball club stormed through the American League season, finishing in first place with a record of 92-58 under National Baseball Hall of Fame player/manager Hughie Jennings. Leading the offense for the mighty Tigers was a pair of future Hall of Fame outfielders, Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford. 1907 marked Cobb's first full season in the big leagues after abbreviated appearances in 1905-06. Cobb would win his first of a record 12 American League batting titles with an average of .350. Detroit would go on to lose the World Series to the Chicago Cubs in five games. Back rim edge has oxidation with shallow pitting of the metal from 3-7 o'clock and age stain shows on most of front. However, button has little actual surface wear and retains great gloss. VG. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
