Item Description
One of only three known examples, 9" tall ribbon badge, no maker's identification. Top has heavy brass luster bar pin with cello insert naming "Athletics". Chain links lead to a cello bar dated "1910" and then to eagle accented brass luster frame holding 7/8" real photo celluloid of National Baseball Hall of Famer Connie Mack, who holds the all-time Major League Baseball record for career wins as a manager with 3,731. Bold gold text reads "World's/Champions/Leeds Base Ball/Club/Philadelphia". The issuer of this badge was the William R. Leeds Base Ball Club. They were part of a local league that included such teams as Southwark, Ocean City, Tacony, Cape May and Atlantic City. The ribbon badge is executed in the city of Philadelphia colors. The 1910 Philadelphia Athletics ball club ran away with the American League pennant, finishing the season with a record of 102-48, leaving them 14.5 games ahead of the second place New York Highlanders under National Baseball Hall of Fame manager Connie Mack. Philadelphia would then go on to dispose of the Chicago Cubs, four games to one, to win the 1910 World Series. The Athletics were led by four HOF team members: Eddie Plank (SP), Chief Bender (SP), Eddie Collins (2B) and Frank "Home Run" Baker (3B).  An amazing tribute to the world's champions and in NM condition. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
