Item Description
1.25" with back paper of Boston firm A.R. Lopez & Bro. Although we have found this identical button paired with a red sock, this example represents the only known with the offered button, ribbons and wooden bat. The 1912 Boston Red Sox were the first of the great Red Sox dynasty clubs of the 1910s. This '12 edition blitzed through the American League's regular season, finishing in first place with a record of 105-47 under player/manager Jake Stahl. The offense was led by two future National Baseball Hall of Fame selectees: Tris Speaker and Harry Hooper, who comprised two-thirds of the best outfield in baseball at the time. The Red Sox would go on to defeat the New York Giants in the 1912 World Series 4-3-1 to become World's Champions. Spring pin holds fraying but still intact narrow ribbons tied to the grip of a bat. The baseball design of the button is a forerunner of World's Series buttons from the 1930s-1950s. The bat and button, with high gloss, are Exc. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
