Item Description
Rare 2-5/8" tall celluloid wrapped silvered brass case with hinged lid on top and match striker on bottom panel. Cello includes name of maker Cruver, Chicago. Sepia real photo with name below of "Heine" rather than the usual "Heinie". Reverse subtext is "Groh's Little Giant Café/Bowling & Baseball Headquarters" plus Rochester, NY address and a "Bell Phone" number. Groh is pictured in a baseball uniform and we estimate this is from 1912 when he debuted with the New York Giants. By 1913, he began a nine year run with Cincinnati, which saw him top the .300 mark in batting on multiple occasions. Heinie would return to his New York roots once again in 1922 with the Giants and would remain there through the 1926 season. Very slight loss of silver luster and light general wear in reflected light on the celluloid. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
