Item Description
First example Hake's has offered, 3.5'' with wood grain cardboard back naming maker Steiner, St. Louis. As with the ribbon on the previous 1930 button, we do not know the significance of the word "Committee" on this big 1931 button. This 1931 St. Louis Cardinals ball club dominated the National League during the regular season, finishing with a record of 101-53 under manager Gabby Street. A total of five National Baseball Hall of Famers played for this team, everyday regulars, Jim Bottomley (1B), Frankie Frisch (2B) and Chick Hafey (OF) along with starting pitchers, Burleigh Grimes and Jesse Haines. St. Louis would go on to win an exciting seven game World Series, defeating the mighty Philadelphia Athletics from the American League. Extremely tiny surface wear traces in reflected light including 1/8" air spot at end of the bat design. No stain. High gloss. Exc. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
