Item Description
6" celluloid, same design and same sans-serif typeface as the previous button but in much larger size. Back has large safety pin fastener plus 1.25" label with repeating name of the maker St. Louis Button Co. The 1944 St. Louis Browns were winners of the American League pennant, albeit during a weakened season as many of Major League Baseball's top stars were overseas fighting in World War II, finishing with a record of 89-65 under manager Luke Sewell. The club was led offensively by one of the best hitting shortstops in baseball history, Vern Stephens, who one day is likely to receive a Hall of Fame selection. The Browns would end up playing the Cardinals in the only all-St. Louis World Series, falling in six tough games.  Slightly seen is a yellow tone streak about 1" long extending inward from the letters "IC" of "American". All else is clean and glossy. Compared to next item with a different type face, the brown color is slightly darker shade on this one. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
